National Topical Stamp Show

The 2017 NTSS was held in Milwaukee, WI. Click on 2017 in the column at the right to read more about NTSS2017.

NTSS2018 will be a joint show with the APS StampShow, to be held in Columbus, OH. Read more about this joint show here.

Each year in which the United States does not host an international stamp show, the ATA sponsors an all-thematic exhibition and Annual Meeting, the National Topical Stamp Show (NTSS). The three-day show qualifies for the World Series of Philately annual exhibition of the American Philatelic Society. The Grand Award winners of the annual NTSS are sanctioned to compete in the annual Champion of Champions event at APS StampShow.

The NTSS is the only all-thematic competition in the United States. In addition to the exhibits, stamp dealers from all walks of philately are present. They help to fill the needs of our members for stamps, covers and collecting supplies. They also appeal to nontopicalists who will have an opportunity to learn more about topical philately while attending the show and to purchase unusual items from dealers who come from outside their home area.

A range of meetings and seminars occurs at every NTSS. At the ATA Annual Meeting, members receive an update on the status of the organization and an introduction to the leadership. At an Open Forum, questions will be answered by the members of the ATA Board of Directors. Several ATA Study Units host free meetings, open to the public, where those interested in the same topic can meet and exchange information. Seminars on a variety of topics, speakers and other activities occur at each show.

The ATA has hosted many First Day of Issue or First Day of Sale ceremonies for topical US and foreign stamps. Cover sales occur at the ATA host table throughout the show. The USPS authorizes the ATA to have three special cancellations – one for each day of the show. Prior show covers are available from the ATA Office as long as supplies last.

Special hotel prices are negotiated for each NTSS. Before the show begins, a half-day local tour occurs on Thursday afternoon. A full-day bus tour to scenic and/or historic areas is held on Monday following the show. Both collectors and dealers have mentioned that NTSS is a wonderfully hospitable, warm and accommodating stamp show. The next National Topical Stamp Show will be held in at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport, June 23-25, 2017.
