RANDY SMITH APPOINTED AS ATA AWARDS DIRECTOR
The American Topical Association (ATA) announces that Mr. Randy Smith of Minnesota is its new ATA Awards
Director, replacing Don Smith who has faithfully served in that capacity for 17+ years.
Responsibilities of this director include sending ATA awards to national, regional and local shows that
request them. Lists of award winners are then sent for listing in The ATA’s bi-monthly journal, Topical Time.
Show Awards Chairs now need to make their requests to Randy - instead of Don - at
rasmary4@frontiernet.net,
or PO Box 2085 , Minneapolis , MN 55402. Should your show awards chairperson not be aware of the availability
of ATA awards for Topical exhibits at shows across North America, contact Mr. Smith at the above email for
additional information. These awards are given for your club to publicize and help bring in topical exhibits
for your show.
Occasionally this role is confused with the Awards Chair at NTSS, the ATA’s National Topical Stamp Show. They
are two distinct functions. National Topical Stamp Show awards are handled through Dalene Thomas who can be
contacted through the ATA Central office.
Randy has been a collector since about age seven, specializing in the USA , the Scandinavian counties, Poland,
and Machins. He has served as president of the ISWSC (International Society of World Wide Stamp Collectors).
Among topicals, he favors, in his words, “Hands, Cardinals (the bird variety!!), and Beards (perhaps because
I can't grow one!!).” He has Co-Chaired the Exhibits & Awards Committee for Minnesota Stamp Expo for the past
few years, a job which has familiarized him with the ATA awards process.
