Selected study unit - United Nations Philatelists, Inc.

The United Nations, an organization whose charter was ratified on October 24, 1945, is unique in that it is the only postage stamp issuing entity that is not solely a sovereign nation. Plus, the stamps that are issued by the United Nations are now issued individually for use at the offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna, using the local language and showing local currency denominations for each. Since the vast majority of nations on Earth are members, stamps commemorating the UN and its programs have been issued by countries around the world. The United Nations Philatelists, Inc. (UNPI) was formed to bring together collectors with an interest in the stamps of the United Nations and the related worldwide topical issues. Membership in UNPI includes a subscription to the bimonthly Journal of United Nations Philatelists and access to member-only auctions of UN materials. The UNPI website, www.unpi.com, includes a database of stamp images connected to this collecting topic as well as archived issues of the Journal, and selected UN philatelic exhibits.
