terms. The Directors and Officers were
installed at National Topical Stamp Show in Denver. The new
ATA Directors are Myron Molnau of Moscow, Idaho, and Evan (Van) Siegling of
Kalamazoo, Mich. Molnau has served since
1969 as an officer of ATA's Ships on Stamps study unit. He is currently Secretary and Webmaster for
the unit and moderates its discussion group on Yahoo! Siegling's exhibit, "The Magical World of
Harry Potter," has won the Most Popular Exhibit award at several stamp shows,
including National Topical Stamp Show 2010.

Check out the ATA's New Obama Hanndbook The American Topical
Association released its 160th handbook on
topical collecting at the National Topical Stamp Show which
was
held in Denver in June. The title of the newest handbook is
Barack
Obama on Worldwide Stamps.
It is the seventh release in the long-running handbook series on US
Presidents written by Melvin Morris. The new handbook will be of
special interest to collectors of Americana, US Presidents, Black
history on stamps, and politically-related philatelic issues. It covers
the period of time between Obama's announcement of his intent to run
for US President and his selection as the winner of the Nobel Peace
Prize in late 2009. Obama consists of 96 , fully color
illustrated
pages, with eight short chapters and 113 high-quality illustrations.
Stamps from 30 different countries are listed and illustrated. Chapter
titles include “Senator Obama's, Free Franks,” “Obama Wins Nobel Peace
Prize,” “The Coming of "Bo" Obama,” and “Michelle Obama Stamps.” This
handbook will be a fine visual reference for philatelic bookshelves.
Morris was the editor of Americana
Philatelic News,
newsletter of ATA‟s
Americana Unit, from 1992 thru 2009. He is a
retired high school and college teacher and was an editor for Grolier’s
Encyclopedia International. His collecting
interests include the
US Presidents and also dogs on stamps. His brief biography in the Obama
handbook relates the story of how he collected stamps before he was
born! The graphic designer for the latest ATA handbook is Amanda Morgenstern, a young American philatelist with a BA (Honors) in Graphic Design and an MA in Typographic Design from Cambridge School of Art in the UK. Morgenstern began her career with Hallmark Cards in the UK and is now a freelance designer. Her clientele includes the ATA as well as other US and international entities. In 2009, her work for a client won a Platinum MarCom award. Morgenstern's online portfolio can be found at http://abovevivid.carbonmade.com/ Barack Obama on Worldwide Stamps was printed by Minuteman Press of Toledo, Ohio, which donated handbook copies to the APS and the APRL. Price of the new handbook is $20 ($18 for ATA members), plus $1.75 for postage. Copies will be available later this year at the ATA's society table at APS StampShow, BALPEX, the Fall Postage Stamp Mega Event in New York, and CHICAGOPEX. A limited number of books have been printed. After this initial printing has sold more printed-on-demand will be available at an approximate cost of $30. Orders for the new ATA handbook should be sent to ATA, PO Box 8, Carterville, IL 62918-0008 for Payments by Check or Money Order. MasterCard, Visa, Discover and PayPal orders can be called into the ATA Central Office at 618-985-5100 or to americantopical@msn.com. Titles of the latest releases are: Collecting the Presidents, My Eclectic Collection, Firemen on Stamps, Integrating the U.S. Navy, and When Presidents Die.
Melvin Morris, a member of the Americana Unit of the ATA, provided the philatelic material used for Collecting the Presidents and When Presidents Die. Mel's contributions to philatelic literature are well known. He edited the Americana Philatelic News from 1992 until early this year, and also wrote six ATA handbooks related to the American presidents. A seventh handbook will be released soon.
Linda Geerlings, an artist and ATA member from Oregon, has contributed a lovely program called My Eclectic Collection. Linda describes beautiful and interesting scented stamps and stamps made of unusual materials in this creative DVD.
ATA DVDs are available to members and nonmembers alike for $10 each plus postage of $1.50 (U.S.), $1.75 (Canada/Mexico), or $2.25 (overseas). Stamp clubs can lease the programs for $5 plus postage.
