Volunteer Opportunities

The American Topical Association is recruiting additional volunteers to fill a very important position. We are seeking checklist input coordinator and a checklist coordinator.

1) The input coordinator (IC) will join an established volunteer who is already doing this job. This person collects information for new stamps issues each month from philatelic sourcesUsing an Excel spreadsheet template, the IC inputs the country, date of issue and other stamp details, including a description of the image(s) on the stamp.

2) The checklist coordinator (CC) enters corrections and additions to the ATA database, using information received from members who find additional stamps or errors in the course of working with their topics. The CC confirms the accuracy of the information provided and makes the necessary changes. The CC also corrects misspellings and makes other small corrections in the database. Occasionally, the CC creates a new checklist when a topic is requested by several members.

The people who take on these volunteer positions must enjoy learning about topical stamps, and doing the research into topics. They must also have a basic knowledge of Excel and be familiar with how to use stamp catalogs. These jobs require dependable, detail-oriented people who will maintain the accuracy of topical checklists. The coordinators will receive training and full support from the ATA staff and board. The volunteers tell us that these jobs take about 3-4 hours a week, or 15 hours a month. There is flexibility in hours worked.
